I have gone through many ups and downs in my life, and all are parts of maturing. Starting this year, I promise myself to live my life to the fullest. By this, I mean living a healthy, happier life. Despite the crazy world we all live in, below is 5 simple ways to create the best of life:
1. Stay positive and smile
Smiling is contagious, and no matter how bad your day has been, try to stay positive. Smiling is the key to break your sadness and depression. One great way that I’ve always done is looking at my doggy’s picture- this works every time. Try looking at funny pictures of your kids, cousins or pets. Here is 9 benefits of smiling. The more positive your thoughts are, the happier your life will be. If you’re going through bad situations, think of the positive sides. Trust me, there’s always a positive side of the worst situation.
2. Read and exercise
Growing up, I am not a big fan of reading. Although, the older I get, the more I love reading. Not only reading broaden your knowledge, enhance memories, reading can also reduces stress. One of my favorite quote is by Joseph Addison “Reading is to the mind what exercise is to the body.” So, to balance it out, we need to exercise. Get at least 150 minutes a week of moderate aerobic activity. Recently, I downloaded a pedometer app on my smartphone and I started walking more often- 10,000 steps everyday is the target. You could try that too.
3. Find your partner in crime
The world means nothing without the people surrounding us. We live in a social world, and so people need one another. My advice is to make lots of friends, and find your partner in crime- your best friend for life. We may have hundreds of friends on social media, but best friend is what everyone really needs. This is because a best friend provides you with comfort, honest opinions, and unconditional support for life. The older I become, the more I realize that I’d rather have few best friends than hundreds of meaningless friends.
4. Explore, experience
I always believe that what makes life worth living is the experience we gain from exploring the world. Never afraid to try something new, explore new places, and try new foods. You won’t realize how little you know about the world until you travel. By exploring, you’ll experience the interconnectedness of humanity. And by exploring, you will learn to appreciate your life. So, when you have the time and money, go travel because the world awaits.
5. Be kind, share your love
I remember a saying, “to be happy is to be kind to others.” No matter what your faiths are, this is true to all religions. We don’t live alone in this world, so that’s the reasons why it’s important to share your kindness whenever you have the chance. I am always so thankful every day that I am provided with enough resources. It’s one of my obligations in life to love, care and help people who are in need. Start from little, do kindness to inspire others.
